Major cities and countries are encouraged to turn off their lights for one whole hour. Do you plan to participate in Earth Hour 2011? In order to take a stand against climate change, Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a fun, annual and global event. For Earth Hour 2011, individuals, businesses and governments around the world are encouraged to take positive actions for the environment, and to celebrate their commitment to the planet by switching off their lights for one designated hour.

The event began in one city, Sydney Australia, in 2007. During that first event, more than two million people and two thousand businesses turned off their lights for one hour to show their desire for action on climate change. It was a great show of collective support from one city at the time. In just the few years since 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become a massive and collective global event.

What’s the point of Earth Hour 2011?

As I understand it, in 2011 Earth Hour is aiming to show the actions that people, businesses and governments worldwide are taking to reduce their environmental impact. As part of this, the act of turning off lights for Earth Hour is not so much about saving power (it never has been), but an act of global solidarity at a time when it is much needed.

Earth Hour 2011 will see many of the world’s iconic buildings and landmarks again switch lights off for the hour. Earth Hour is also hoping that hundreds of millions of people will again participate by switching off their lights to collectively celebrate a commitment to protecting the environment. Earth Hour is more of fun celebration, a party, than it is a protest.

Review these typical interview questions and think about how you would answer them. Read the questions listed; you will also find some strategy suggestions with it.

1. Tell me about yourself:
The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise.Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest
back and work up to the present.

2. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad.Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an reasons.opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking

3. What do co-workers say about you?
Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement or a paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the hardest workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.

4. What do you know about this organization?
This question is one reason to do some research on the organization before the interview. Find out where they have been and where they are going. What are the current issues and who are the major players?

5. Are you applying for other jobs?
Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.

6. Why do you want to work for this organization?
This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on theresearch you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely career goals.important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term

7. Do you know anyone who works for us?
Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.

8. What kind of salary do you need?
A loaded question. A nasty little game that you will probably lose if you answer first. So, do not answer it. Instead, say something like,That’s a tough question. Can you tell me the range for this position? In most cases, the interviewer, taken off guard, will tell you. If not,say that it can depend on the details of the job. Then give a wide range.

9. Are you a team player?
You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready.Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself are good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag, just say it in a matter-of-fact tone. This is a key point.

The year was 1989. Ronald Regan was President, Isiah Thomas and the Detroit Pistons were embarking on the first of their two-year NBA Championship run, and a young Keanu Reeves taught us all how to laugh in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

But computing back in the late 80’s was anything but universally accessible. To wit, check out this 1989 Newspaper ad showcasing the Tandy 5000 MC Professional System.

Checking in at just under $8,500, the Tandy 5000 MC Pro System came with a speedy 20 Mhz Intel 386 processor and a generous 2 MB of RAM. What a beast!

And oh yes, the Monitor and Mouse aren’t included. Curiously, though, the keyboard is.
