Those looking to carry the most amount of space they can in the smallest package will be happy to hear that Kingston has just released a 256GB USB flash drive. This flash drive, pictured above, is entitled the DataTraveler 310 has a read and write speeds of 25MB/second and 12MB/second, respectively.

Kingston promises data transfer rates of 25MB/sec read and 12MB/sec write. The drive measures 2.9″ x 0.87″ x 0.63″ and has a removable cap that covers the USB port. The flash drive also ships with a loop to attach it to a key ring.

At the bottom of the drive, just above the hole where the lanyard is to be attached, is an activity LED that glows orange.

The drive shows up as soon as you plug it in a USB port. After repeated tests we found that in Vista and Windows 7 the drive is not capable of ReadyBoost.

The drive shows up as soon as you plug it in a USB port. In Windows Vista, it prompts you to either use it as a storage drive or to speed up the computer using ReadyBoost. But in Windows 7, the drive does not seem to be able to pass the ReadyBoost test for some reason.

Earlier, Kingston would provide a mini CD for the software, but now they provide it on the drive itself. The software that comes with the drive is known as PasswordTraveler.

When you start this software, you are prompted to create a Privacy Zone on the drive, which is nothing but an encrypted partition that will be used to securely store important data. This partition remains hidden as long as the correct password is not entered.

Samsung today announced the industry’s first production of 20 nanometer (nm) class NAND chips for use in Secure Digital (SD) memory cards and embedded memory solutions. Samsung’s 20nm-class MLC NAND has a 50 percent higher productivity level than 30nm-class MLC NAND. The write performance of a 20nm-class-based, eight gigabyte (GB) and higher density, SD card is 30 percent faster than the 30nm-class NAND and it delivers a speed-class rating of 10 (read speed of 20MB/s, write speed of 10MB/s). By applying cutting-edge process, design and controller technology, Samsung also has secured reliability levels comparable to 30nm-class NAND.

Samsung’s timely introduction of its high-performance premium NAND will better support the growing memory requirements of high-density smartphones, high-end IT applications and high-performance memory cards. Memory cards based in the 20nm-class will be available from 4GB through 64GB densities.

Well, it looks like the cat is out of the bag as SanDisk plans to unveil a 32GB microSDHC memory card. For now, this will be the world’s largest memory card available for smartphones and other mobile devices. The Class 2 card will retail for $199.99 and can be purchased online at the SanDisk website as well as through other select online partner sites located in Europe and the US. Worldwide distribution of this product is expected to commence in April.

SanDisk ships 32GB microSDHC card for $200

Corsair P512 SSD Storage

The Corsair P512 SSD is one of the largest if not the largest capacity SSD storage in the retail market available and with the reliability and durability of SSD storage, there’s no better option for a storage device than this especially if you are into movies and music that take up a lot of space really fast.

The Corsair P512 SSD has a 512 GB storage capacity with a very high read speed of 240 MB per second letting you breeze through the enormous amount of data faster than usual and a write speed of 128 MB per second that allows you to fill the storage relatively fast. Making use of the SATA 3 Gb per second interface that is still very fast in terms of transfer rate standards, SATA 6 Gb per second may be at the door but the demand is not that high to justify the cost in a practical setting.

A great storage drive that features Solid State Drive technology that allows for longer life spans and reliability as well as SATA 3Gb per second interface that powers the speed of the transfer makes this huge storage drive a great option even if the price is a little steep.

Thanks to the net, content is free nowadays and its not surprising if you run of out of disk space. Based on the solid NAND flash memory, Transcend released the 192 GB Solid State Drive in India today.

Being a SSD, it will not suffer mechanical failure due to shocks or vibrations. According to Transcend, irrespective of the file size, it has read/write speeds of 150MB/90MB per second.

It also features integrated ECC (Error Correction Code) to ensure accurate data transfer, as well as built-in wear leveling technology, which guarantees an ultra-long storage lifespan and long-term reliability.

With a latency of about 0.2ms, the SSD helps the computer to boot up faster and games to run more smoothly, and there is an overall improvement in system responsiveness.

This 192GB SSD incorporates an industry-standard SATA II interface 2.5-inch form factor that allows easy installation in most notebook computers and mainstream PCs.

Transcend boasts of the drive’s silent operation and power-saving nature, which makes it an ideal choice for notebook storage upgrades. The 192GB SSD solution comes with a two-year warranty. It consumes low power and is the drive for now.

The price might make your wallet just win the feather weight championship. How much? Rs.37,000 only.
